Sammy Ray is a well-rounded musician in Wisconsin, USA. She has been nominated “Female Vocalist of the Year in 2017, 2018(Singer/Songwriter of the year), 2019, 2020, & 2021 by the Wisconsin Area Music Industry(WAMI). Known to be a prominent member of multiple bands she plays guitar, harmonica, banjo, drums, and sometimes keys. Sammy went to the University of Wisconsin Waukesha for Percussion and transferred to UWMilwaukee for Music Education – Finger-style guitar.
Although most known for her country songs, surprisingly she is a HUGE fan of progressive rock/metal bands such as Opeth, Pantera, Tool, Steven Wilson, etc.
“I don’t make one ‘type’ of music ONLY. I don’t like to be put in a box. I don’t like the word genre. Sometimes I feel like writing a techno tune, sometimes a boot stompin’ country tune, sometimes an acoustic jam with no words, sometimes I just wanna scream… And with my music, – that’s what you’ll find. A little bit of everything.”
When she’s not on stage she has her face in a book studying natural hygiene and the terrain model of disease, or outside kayaking and hiking, spending time with family, and creating original spray paint art.
Sammy is currently active in her solo career, has recently joined a new project, “North of Normal”, and is still actively booking with 90’s AF, Bound for Branson, American Tailgate, and Lunacy(whom is currently taking a break for baby having, returning June 2023).
