
The Sugarhill Gang was an American hip-hop group formed in 1979 by producer Sylvia Robinson, featuring members Michael “Wonder Mike” Wright, Henry “Big Bank Hank” Jackson, and Guy “Master Gee” O’Brien, all from Englewood, NJ, known for their groundbreaking 1979 hit “Rapper’s Delight,” the first rap single to hit the Top 40, popularizing hip-hop globally with its catchy beat sampled from Chic’s “Good Times“.
